Terms & Conditions

Learning to drive is a skill for life

With over 35 years of experience providing professional driving tuition, Trio Driving School is committed to providing high-quality instruction in a safe, supportive and professional environment.

These Terms and Conditions form an important part of your driving tuition with Trio Driving School. Please take the time to read them carefully. By booking and undertaking driving lessons with Trio Driving School, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.

1. Driving licence, fitness & responsibilities

  • Hold a current and valid UK provisional or full driving licence (as applicable).
  • Produce your licence on your first lesson and whenever requested.
  • Tell us about any changes to your licence or circumstances (medical conditions, convictions, endorsements, etc.).
  • Arrive on time and be fit and healthy for the lesson.
  • Wear suitable clothing and practical footwear, and any glasses or contact lenses you need for driving.
  • If you are not fit and prepared to drive safely, the lesson may be stopped or cancelled and the fee may still be payable.

2. Lesson times & duration

  • Lessons are booked for a specific appointment time.
  • Standard lessons are usually 50–60 minutes (exact time confirmed at booking).
  • Lesson time includes instruction, checks, feedback, planning, questions and other training.
  • The vehicle is insured for the lesson time only, and changes to time or location may affect the lesson and availability.

3. Payment

  • Lessons must be paid for at the time of the lesson unless an alternative arrangement has been agreed.
  • Any additional costs (e.g. test hire) must be paid in full before a test or booking can be confirmed.

4. Cancellations & missed lessons

  • At least 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or rearrange a lesson.
  • Less than 24 hours’ notice, or a no-show, may result in the full lesson fee being charged.
  • Lesson appointments are reserved for you and cannot be transferred to another pupil.
  • Exceptions may be considered in genuine emergencies or exceptional circumstances, at the instructor’s discretion.

5. Driving tests & test readiness

  • Only book a test after discussion and agreement with your instructor.
  • Your instructor will assess your progress and advise when you are ready for a test.
  • Before taking a test in the Trio vehicle, you must have demonstrated a safe, consistent and sufficiently independent standard of driving.
  • If your instructor feels you are not yet test ready, they may recommend further training, such as additional driving practice, refresher lessons, mock tests, independent driving, safety and confidence, hazard perception, manoeuvres, theory preparation, or work on specific road skills and normal traffic conditions.
  • Keep taking regular lessons and follow your instructor’s advice. Being close to test standard doesn’t mean a test is bookable; standards, availability and timing all play a part.
  • If you choose to keep your test against our recommendation, you do so at your own risk, and we cannot be held responsible if the test is unsuccessful.

6. Driving test vehicle & vehicle suitability

  • We will decide whether our vehicle is suitable for a test. If not, alternative arrangements may be made.
  • The vehicle may be changed for safety, mechanical or other reasons.
  • The vehicle must be roadworthy, legal and appropriately insured for the test.
  • The safety of the pupil, instructor, examiner and other road users will always take priority.
  • If you believe the vehicle may be unsuitable, please tell us as soon as possible.
  • If you have health, mobility or other needs, please discuss these with us in advance.
  • We reserve the right to change the vehicle or instructor at any time.

7. Instructor illness & unavoidable circumstances

  • In the event of instructor illness, injury or other unavoidable personal circumstances, we will re-arrange your lesson at the earliest opportunity.
  • We will work with you to rearrange the lesson or provide alternative arrangements where possible.

8. Punctuality

  • Be ready at the agreed collection point at the agreed time.
  • If you’re late, the lesson will normally still finish at the originally planned time where possible, even if the lesson is shortened.
  • If you’re significantly late or fail to attend, the lesson may be cancelled or treated as a missed appointment, and the full lesson fee may apply.

9. Progress & lesson frequency

  • No specific number of lessons can be guaranteed.
  • Most pupils need a different number of lessons depending on their skills, progress and confidence. Your instructor will help you understand when you are ready for your test.
  • Regular lessons are strongly recommended to maintain continuity and support effective progress.

10. Safety

  • The safety of the pupil, instructor and other road users is our highest priority.
  • Your instructor may change, stop or end a lesson where they believe continuing would be unsafe.
  • Failure to follow instructions, guidance or safety instructions may result in the lesson being stopped or ended.

11. Agreement & changes to these terms

  • By booking and undertaking driving lessons with Trio Driving School, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
  • We may update these terms from time to time, and make changes where reasonably necessary.
  • Any significant changes will be communicated to pupils where appropriate.
